You can swim your dog in some pretty cold temps if he's wearing his vest. Tom Dokken recommends a vest made out of thinner neoprene 3 mm because they stretch more easily than the thicker ones. The point of having your dog wear it is to keep him warm, so you don't want air space between his body and the material.
